Buried Treasure
Senior BFA Exhibition - Spring 2024
Buried Treasure is an animal shelter with an attached store that has everything a new dog owner might need to make their new animal comfortable in their new home. The shelter includes adoption posters, informational brochures, adoption paperwork, and social media posts. The store includes typographical posters, photographs, a pegboard with toys and necessities, dog food, treats, and shampoo. All of the designs are made to be friendly and welcoming, something that either a new and experienced dog owners alike would want to pick up for their new pup.
Overall, Buried Treasure is meant to be happy and create excitement for the potential of bringing home a new pet. I am hoping with this show that people get excited to go look for dogs at shelters instead of breeders as there are so many dogs in shelters. I want the viewer to leave my show feeling as though they have just played with a happy dog and maybe considering adopting one of their own. I want the products to feel as though it is something that you would actually want to give your dog if you already have one. Over all, I want the viewer to feel as though they have just left a shelter after having a wonderful experience visiting a shelter dog.
Logo Design
Buried Treasure was named that way for several reasons, the first being the most obvious. Dogs bury their treasure, most of the time that would be their bone, but it went deeper than that. When you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter, most of the time you don’t go looking for a specific kind of dog, you may not even know what dogs are available until you arrive. When you do arrive, you may be looking at fifty different dogs trying to find the best match for you, it is as if you are searching for your own buried treasure.
Designing the logo was based around this idea and contains elements specific to canines. The bone surrounds the pad of a dog’s paw which is used in other aspects of the brand. Dogs have limited colors that they can see, it was with that in mind that the primary brand colors, Ocean Blue and Sunshine Yellow were chosen.
Poster Design
Each environmental poster was designed to create excitement and add to the bright, happy interior of the shelter. By using a mix of photography, illustration, and fun typography, it gives the potential pet parent a glimpse of what life could be like with a new furry companion.
I chose to photograph each dog in a studio setting with professional lighting to help accurately portray their unique personalities and to show off two common breeds that can be found within animal shelters.
Informational Graphics
It was important to me that any and all information within this show was as accurate as possible. That also included the dogs on the adoption posters. I was able to partner with a local animal shelter to photograph four of their dogs in hopes of finding them homes during the duration of my exhibition.
Each brochure was designed with new pet owners in mind. I tried to focus each one on a different common question or difficulty that may be faced when bringing an animal home. Each brochure was designed to be different from one another while still looking coherent as a group.
Package Design
The Happy Pup Brand was created to be the generic versions of products sold within the Buried Treasure store. Each package was researched and thoughtfully designed with current pet parents in mind. All the information was inspired by existing products to create a believable product when examined.
Social Media
Buried Treasure’s social media was made to both showcase the existing dogs within the shelter as well as helpful information for both the current pet parents and those who are looking to become one.
